Harlows Angels

Before we began work tidying the garden, Miss Rowe and the children brought some of the new hens at Angel Court inside so the residents could enjoy them.

Nothing nicer than having a warm, friendly hen on your lap. As you can see the chicks are becoming teenagers and it won’t be long before they are old enough to start laying. Carol was very impressed that she was colour co-ordinated with her little bantam. With each visit the residents tell us more stories about their feathered friends as they watch from the community rooms or observe from the garden. The children chatted away with them comparing notes about the best way to look after the birds and keeping them healthy.

Then Miss Rowe took the children into the garden for a bit of a tidy up. Autumn is well and truly here so the leaves and beech nuts are starting to fall. Lots of branches to pick up after the storm, paths to clear so the wheelchairs can move smoothly and moss removed, because that can make things slippery. The henhouse was cleaned, fresh food and water put in and finally we potted some mint plants. These are placed around the coop, they are full of goodness for the hens to eat but also keep away the flies, so that’s an added bonus. The children worked really hard and were rewarded with more of Julies marvellous home cooked treats.
