Growing and Planting

This week the children have continued their topic ‘Outdoor Explorers’ by focusing on growing and planting.

We began by reading ‘Camille and the Sunflowers’ by Laurence Anholt and thinking about the life cycle of a plant. We have discussed the parts of a plant and learnt some key vocabulary such as shoot, root and stem.  In the classroom, we used different art materials, such as paint and oil pastels, to bring our sunflower creations to life. Outside, the children have enjoyed planting sunflower seeds into pots and getting the vegetable patch ready to plant. They are eagerly waiting for signs of their plants growing and are watching every day. Excitingly, we have noticed our broad beans have begun to sprout into a seedling and are waiting to put them into pots of soil.
