Journeys- our local area

This week in Reception, we have been learning all about our local area as part of our topic on Journeys. The children became keen observers as they carried out a traffic survey, watching the dual carriageway from the school fence and using tally charts to record the different types of transport they could see.  We developed our technology skills by using Purple Mash to create a pictogram showing the different ways we travel to school. This linked closely with our maths learning, where we compared groups to find more and fewer.  In our computing and problem-solving activities, the children enjoyed programming Beebot toys to travel between local landmarks, which were printed onto wooden bricks. Outdoors, we explored our school grounds using Google Earth printouts to help us locate familiar places, and the children showed great creativity by building a variety of vehicles in the large construction area.
