Little Pigs, Little Pigs, Let Me Come In!

This week in their Forest School sessions the children have really run with the idea of Fairy Tales after making bridges for Billy Goats last week. In music they have been learning a blues version of the story of The Three Little Pigs, so it was lovely to hear them singing whilst they worked. They built some great houses of sticks and bricks, because even pigs have the right to a good standard of living, safe from those pesky wolves. Some even attempted to build houses of straw, that’s a lot harder than it looks in the story. Others made the characters out of clay and some just did their own thing, enjoying the environment and working with their friends. What is so rewarding to see is how all their effort in learning to co-operate, negotiate and barter over the term is now just second nature. They had complete freedom to work in whatever way they liked with whoever they wanted as long as they demonstrated our 3 school rules of Ready, Respectful and Safe. Miss Rowe cooked for them on the campfire, some cinnamon apples to keep their strength up.

The Long-Term Principle: Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment, rather than a one-off visit. Planning, adaptation, observations and reviewing are integral elements of Forest School.

Article 27: We all have the right to a good standard of living.
