Our creative sessions continue at Angel Court with Rosie, a mixed media artists from the Equal Arts Council. Rosie works with Elizabeth the Storyteller and this week, linking to her story of the North Wind, we started to create some textile leaves, these will become part of our final piece of work. This brought back lots of memories for the residents of sewing when they were children. All the adults had made a sewing kit, Alan made his in the army, most had made their own gym bag and the children also had some previous experience sewing puppets in school. First they practiced a simple running stich, then they drew leaf templates and chose the colours they wanted from the repurposed textiles that Rosie had brought in. The residents experience shone through when the children got stuck or tangled. This was probably one of our quietest sessions with everyone so engrossed in their work. Next week we are going to try some sewing on the machine.
