Sense of Place

To launch our topic ‘Sense of Place’, the boys and girls have been learning about the UK and practising their atlas skills.

They began by recapping previous learning and naming the four countries which make up the UK before identifying them on a map. They were then introduced to the term county, learning that our school is in Tyne and Wear, and locating it using an atlas.  The children then looked at the capital cities of each country in the UK and used an atlas again to find out where they are. They were challenged to locate a number of other cities too, which they did a fabulous job with.

The boys and girls are looking forward to putting their atlas skills to the test again next lesson to learn about the seas around the UK and the main rivers.
