This week in Reception, we have been enjoying the story Jack and the Beanstalk, which we will continue to develop over the half term through our Talk for Writing sessions. The children immersed themselves in the story by listening to it, joining in with repeated phrases and acting it out in our role‑play castle and small world area. In Literacy, the children wrote simple sentences describing the giant, such as “He is big” and “He is cross.” We also learned about growing plants. After discussing germination, the children planted beans in damp cotton wool and are excited to watch them grow. Outside, we planted salad and vegetable seeds in pots, which we will soon move to our vegetable patch.
