This term, Year Two are learning all about golf in PE.
To begin, the boys and girls learned that golf is played with a club and ball, can be played individually or as part of a team, and that the player with the fewest strokes wins the game. They also learned about the different parts of a golf course – the rough, fairway, water and bunker. The children played a fun game to help them remember each feature and understand that the ball should stay on the fairway.
To practise their aim, the children began by rolling a ball towards a target. Once they were confident, they learned how to hold the golf club correctly. They stood with their feet shoulder-width apart and placed both hands on the club, with their thumbs pointing down. After mastering the correct grip and stance, the children used a ‘tick-tock’ technique to move the club back and forth. By the end of the lesson, they were able to successfully putt the ball to hit a target.
