St. Ninian’s Church

Everyone was very excited to go on their very first trip in Year One.   The children have been learning all about Christian churches. They have learnt what happens in a church and features of a church both inside and outside. On Wednesday we all walked down to St. Ninian’s church in Low Fell. We enjoyed the journey and talked about features of our local area along the way.  Once there, we were greeted by Reverend George. He welcomed us into the church and we all sat on the pews. The children were fascinated to learn about the different parts of the church. They learnt about the font, the altar, the lectern, the organ and the nave. They even learnt that instead of stained-glass windows, St. Ninian’s church is decorated with banners depicting stories from the Bible. Some children even had a chance to try on some of Reverend George’s vestments.   Our favourite part was when Reverend George burst into song and we all clapped along.  Everyone had a fantastic time.
