Talk For Writing

This half term in Reception, we have been reading and learning the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have really enjoyed exploring the story and becoming familiar with the characters, key events, and repeated language. This week, we completed our class story map, where we worked together to sequence the story using pictures, actions, and new vocabulary. The children enjoyed creating their own individual story maps, using their own ideas and language to retell the story. It was wonderful to see their growing confidence and creativity as they explained the beginning, middle, and end. We also became authors by making our own Jack and the Beanstalk books. The children worked hard to write simple sentences to describe each part of the story, showing great effort with their phonics and early writing skills. We also had lots of fun making our own beanstalks, where the children carefully cut around spirals to create long, winding beanstalks. We compared how tall we could make them and talked about whose beanstalk grew the tallest, just like in the story.
