Creating portraits… guess who?

Over the past few days, the children have really enjoyed getting creative.  To begin, they looked at the work of the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh.  They read a biography about his life and looked at some of his most famous pieces of artwork.  Everyone was shocked to find out that he cut off one of his ears whilst living in France.  The children worked hard on their drawing skills, using pencil to sketch facial features such as eyes, noses and lips.  They drew different faces using line guides to place features in the right place.  They also drew their own self portrait and looked in a mirror to ensure their work was a true representation.  Finally, the boys and girls created self portraits using charcoal.  Everyone enjoyed sharing the final pieces of artwork and guessing who was who.
