This week, Year 5 have explored reflection in Maths.
This week in Maths, Year 5 have begun their new unit on Shape. Since Monday, the children have been building their understanding step by step, exploring co-ordinates, translation and lines of symmetry.
Today, the focus was on reflection. The children learnt about the importance of the mirror line and how a shape must be carefully flipped over this line to create an accurate reflection. We discussed how each point on a shape must be the same distance from the mirror line as its reflected partner.
In order to correctly reflect the shapes, the children understood that the shape must be the same distance from the mirror line as its reflected partner. The children were able to carefully count the squares to check the distances between the two shapes and ensure that their reflected shapes were the correct orientation.
