Our topic this term is Sense of Place. In Geography, Year 3 have been learning all about where our school is located. They started by reminding themselves of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom before moving on to learn about counties, successfully identifying Tyne and Wear as our local county. The children then explored the capital cities of the United Kingdom before finding and locating Newcastle upon Tyne – the closest city to our school.
As their learning progressed, Year 3 investigated the major rivers and surrounding seas of the United Kingdom. They can confidently name the River Tyne as being the river separating Gateshead and Newcastle.
In each lesson, they used atlases to help them find and identify features, carefully labelling their own maps. The children worked hard and showed excellent focus while developing their geographical knowledge and map skills.
