This week in Year 4 we have been learning all about mountain regions as part of our geography learning!
The children investigated how mountains are formed and discovered some of the highest points in the UK, including Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.
We also had some thoughtful discussions about the positive and negative impacts of tourism in mountain areas and sorted statements in our books. The children considered how visitors can support local communities and businesses, but also how large numbers of tourists can sometimes affect wildlife, landscapes and local environments.
To finish our learning, we looked at famous mountain challenges and discovered what it means to “bag a Munro.” Some of the children were so inspired that they now have ambitions to climb one themselves one day!
Well done everyone for your fantastic curiosity, teamwork and thoughtful ideas throughout this topic.
