The Reception children rounded off their first week of term with a virtual workshop from the Postal Museum, kindly supported by Royal Mail. The session was based on The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, and the class followed along as our jolly postie guided them through a simple retelling of the story.
During the workshop, the children explored how letters travel through the postal system. They learned about stamps, how mail is sorted, and the process of delivery. Working together, they also wrote a group letter to the Gingerbread Boy, which encouraged them to think carefully about what a letter needs and how it is sent.
The session included opportunities to join in with songs, answer questions about the characters, and talk about the role of a postal worker in the community. It offered a fun and engaging way for the children to connect a familiar story with real‑life learning.
