Exploring Jack and the Beanstalk

This week in Reception, we have been immersed in the enchanting story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have enjoyed collaborating to create a vibrant class story map, outlining the key events and characters of the tale. Our role play area has been transformed into a magical castle, where the children eagerly acted out scenes from the story, allowing their imaginations to flourish.

In addition to these engaging activities, the children took part in writing their own sentences inspired by the story. This creative exercise not only supports their literacy skills but also fosters a love for storytelling.

To deepen their connection with the narrative, we planted beans and seeds in our garden, observing the planting process and discussing growth. We also experimented by placing beans and peas in cotton wool within plastic bags, enabling us to observe their growth closely.  During Plan Do Review time, the children chose to build their own castles and draw and paint beanstalks. It has been a week filled with excitement and learning!
