Summer of Sport continues…

Our summer of (winning) sport continues – come rain or shine!

We always have lots going on in school and it is great to see so many children actively engaged in our sports clubs, teams and tournaments.

As well as competitions, we have also attended various non-competitive sport festivals from Reception upwards.

EYFS – A small group of Reception children took part in a festival of activities run by Gateshead SSP earlier in the term – a great chance for us already to spot some up and coming sporting talent in school.  They took part in a whole range of activities using all sorts of athletics’ skills like jumping, throwing and running.

Year 4 – Boccia – Two teams qualified for the County Finals in Boccia and they enjoyed a range of games over their day out – finishing third in their groups, narrowly missing out on progressing to the finals stage.  There were such a positive, motivated and supportive group of children, reflecting two our school rules of being very respectful and ready to play.

Year 3 / 4 tennis  The team was crowned champions in their tournament this week, coming first after winning enough points in their individual and team events.  In glorious sunshine the team played brilliantly and all their dedicated hard work in early morning clubs at school paid off.  Well done!!

Year 5 / 6 Football Team  Crowned league champions this year, we saw another trophy return to school with this superb achievement.  Well done to the team who have played brilliantly all year in some of the most awful conditions and muddy fields!  A great result.

Year 5 / 6 Girls’ County Cup Football – Our success in girls’ football continues with two packed clubs and still lots of interest and engagement in the sport.  We have seen more promising talent and enthusiastic club members pushing to get onto the team, and this year with a new round of tournaments, made great progress through the league, narrowly missing out on final, finishing 2nd in their group.

It is through the dedication and hard work from the children and the parents and carers supporting with attending coaching sessions, early starts and later finishes that we continue to see such a great, positive and successful year of sport at school.
