Parent Governor Vacancy

Harlow Green Community Primary School currently has 2 Parent Governor vacancies which would begin in June 2022.

The role of the governing body is an important one in supporting the strategic vision of the school and to enable high-quality educational provision for all. Parent governors are welcomed as valued members of the team and play a vital role in ensuring the governing body is aware of the views of parents and the local community. An effective school governor is someone who:
• cares about improving children’s educational achievement;
• is willing to listen, learn, be supportive and ask questions;
• has an awareness of parents’ needs and concerns;
• has enthusiasm;
• can commit their time and energy.

What is the time commitment?
Governors meet half-termly as part of a committee or as a full governing body. These meetings are after school
and last for approximately 2 hours each. In addition to this, there will be other times when governors arrange to meet staff to monitor and challenge the school’s provision in specific areas.

What skills, knowledge or understanding do I need?
It is ideal that a governing body has a range of personnel from varying backgrounds within the group. This will provide a variety of expertise which can support the school in the many areas of responsibility that there are. Training and support will be available to help you develop into the role.

How long do governors serve the school?
Once on a governing body, the term of office usually lasts 4 years. This can be extended over time, depending on context, and can be shorter if there are issues that arise.

If I am interested what should I do?
If you feel you can help in this capacity, please contact the school office to request a nomination form which will need to be returned to the school by 12 noon on Monday 9th May. If you would like to have a further discussion about it before you make a decision, an appointment can be made with Mr Malik (Head Teacher).
