IT’S (almost) CHRISTMAS!!

This week we started Christmas in Reception! The children have loved spending time in school celebrating and learning about Advent and the reason why we celebrate Christmas. We started topic by reading the story ‘The Nativity’ which told us all about the story of the first Christmas and about baby Jesus. The children learnt key words form the story; Mary, Joseph, Jesus, Shepherds, Kings, Bethlehem, Innkeepers, stable, star, manger.  We have been practicing and recording our school Nativity – this is now recorded – The children were AMAZING!! We are so proud of them and how hard they have worked to learn their words.

We spent the morning of the 1st December decorating our classroom with lights, tinsel and putting up our Christmas tree, together working as a whole class team. The children were also very excited to welcome our elf Ernie to the classroom. So far, he has caused lots of mischief all over the classroom. The children have also started some of our Christmas crafts too and are looking forward to bringing these home in their Christmas bags at the end of term.  During Literacy, the children have written their letters to Santa and posted them via Royal Mail to the North Pole. To write these we tried hard to use our Phonics learning to help write down the things we would like on Christmas Day. We are so excited to see if we get a reply from Santa before we finish for the Christmas holidays.

Our Christmas learning was made even better when we came into school this week and it had been snowing! It was a fabulous surprise and the children loved playing in the snow but kept warm wearing their hats, gloves and scarves!
