Focus on Fractions

Our current focus in Maths is fractions – revisiting some elements from Year 2, and adding in some new challenges with unit and non-unit fractions and then comparing and ordering them.

Today we used the red and yellow counters to look at how you can demonstrate and write unit fractions, and how they can be added to make non-unit fractions.  These are a great visual representation that backs up the number work, and when done systematically, help the children understand the concept of fractions being part of a whole, and how to make the whole.

Article 28 – We have the right to a good standard of education.
