Year 3 have been learning about the importance of John the Baptist to Christians. They began by exploring the story of John the Baptist and developing their understanding of why he is a significant figure in Christianity. The children then explored the meaning of water as a symbol in Christianity, linking it back to the story of John the Baptist. They discovered how water represents cleansing, new beginnings and belonging. Building on this, Year 3 learned about the sacrament of baptism and what happens during a baptism ceremony. They discussed why Christians choose to be baptised and what this means for their faith. To finish their learning, the children designed their own symbols to represent baptism. They carefully explained their choices, showing a thoughtful understanding of the ideas they have explored.
