The children in Year 2 have enjoyed finding out about the world they live in. They began by learning the names of the seven continents of the world and labelling these on a map. Next, they looked in an atlas to find the location of the five oceans of the world, which they again plotted on a map. The children looked at a globe and learnt that the earth is a sphere. They learnt about places on earth that are hot and cold, before marking the equator on their map. To conclude, everyone enjoyed looking at the places the snail visited in ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson. They marked the snail’s adventure and illustrated the journey. We saw some fantastic drawings of icebergs and penguins in Antarctica, coral reefs in Oceania and monkeys, parrots and swamps in the rainforest in South America. Happy travelling everyone.
