This week, the boys and girls in Year 3 were introduced to their new class text – The Firework-Maker’s Daughter by Phillip Pullman. They began by exploring clues, including a sparkler and an elephant, and shared their ideas about the type of text it might be and what it could be about. They eagerly unwrapped the book and were keen to add to their predictions based on the title and the front cover image. The boys and girls then had a brilliant time making their own colourful fireworks and setting them off within the classroom. Since then, they have enjoyed reading the first chapter and are intrigued to find out what treacherous Journey Lila will go on and whether she will, in the end, achieve her dream of becoming a fire-work maker herself.
