Love is in the air… and Pancakes!

We have had a ‘flipping’ good time in Nursery this week!

We have learnt all about Pancake Day and Valentine’s Day  as part of our topic learning. We started the week reading the ‘Love Monster’ story which is all about a monster looking for someone to love him, despite what he looks like. This got us talking about the people we love and why we love them.  The children recorded their own messages to send home to explain their thoughts. We enjoyed learning how to use the record function on the iPads. As part of our Valentine’s learning we have made cards for the people we love and baked too! We made jam filled heart biscuits. We gathered ingredients, weighed them out, rolled out the biscuit dough and cut the biscuits with cutters. We then added warm jam to a biscuit base before sandwiching it together with another heart biscuit on top!

This week we also listened to a story called ‘Rabbits Pancake Picnic’ and learnt the three ingredients needed to make pancakes – Milk, Flour and Eggs. We loved re-enacting this in our pancake café, making pancakes with different toppings for our friends and teachers. On Tuesday we got to make some pancake batter and fry some pancakes to taste. We enjoyed adding toppings of golden syrup, chocolate spread and lemon to taste.

What a busy, but tasty, week in Nursery.
