It’s the Year of the Dragon

This week, Reception have been celebrating the festival of Chinese New Year  and have taken part in a lot of exciting activities throughout the week.

We began by reading the story ‘Lanterns and Fireworks’ which tells the story of Chinese New Year. We learnt that fireworks are let off to scare away bad spirits and the colour red represents good luck. After reading ‘The Great Race’, we discovered that there are 12 zodiac animals, each with their own year. We then decorated a dragon and attached some fabric to create our own dragon dance, crafted red lanterns and decorated dragons.

Later in the week, we opened our own Chinese restaurant, serving noodles, spring rolls and prawn crackers with dipping sauces. The children thoroughly enjoyed their meal and we’re very eager to try everything

We have had lots of fun celebrating Chinese New Year. Take a look at our week below.
