Year 4 have been enjoying learning how to play Boccia over the last few weeks. Boccia is designed for athletes with high support needs. It is a target sport played indoors with soft leather balls and requires skill and tactical play. The children have begun to demonstrate those skills and referee their own games. Continuing the theme of experiencing sports modified for those with disabilities, this week sensory chime balls were introduced. Designed for people with hearing difficulties and visual impairments, the children quickly realised the importance of calm quiet game play. Clear, concise and specific instruction is required for these games to work.

- We began in teams sitting in a circle.

- One child in the centre rolled the ball to each member of the circle.

- Lots of laughter and smiles.

- Blindfolds were then given to the children in the circle.

- The children quickly realised that quiet is vital for this game to work.

- The centre child could see and had to say the name of the child they were rolling to.

- All the children took turns to be the centre.

- Once all the children had a turn in the centre they then moved into a big circle.

- Now they rolled across the centre of the circle.
