The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This week Reception have been learning all about different minibeasts as part of our topic for this half term ‘Explorers Outdoors’. We started the week introducing a variety of minibeasts  and read the story ‘Mad About Minibeasts’. The children wrote a list of sentence clues in literacy for someone else to guess their favourite minibeast. The children were also very excited to find we had caterpillars delivered to school and are going to be growing them until they turn into butterflies. The children now know the full life cycle and can identify it in the correct order. We have spent lots of time outside this week and have enjoyed exploring the outdoor area for different types of minibeasts using magnifying glasses, bug catchers and checklists to mark off what we had found. The children are looking forward to learning more about other minibeasts and watching the caterpillars grow (they are getting quite big already!)
