Tremendous Tipees

In Year 2 the children created some tremendous tipees for their squirrel friend. In class we looked at some photos of different communities around the world who live in dwellings like these, continuing our conversations about habitats and how the environment often dictates the kind of buildings we create. We talked about why we often use triangles in construction to help give robust structure and what kind of materials might make the job easier.

The children demonstrated a good understanding of building to a scale (in this case a home for a small woodland creature). They are now showing more confidence in selecting appropriate materials and using our Forest School area safely.
