This half term we have been following the life cycle of a ladybird.
A part of our Summer topic, Adventure Awaits!, we spent lots of time learning about different minibeasts we would find outside. We were very interested in ladybirds, so we looked into getting eggs and had them delivered a few weeks ago. We watched as they hatched into Larve and were shocked to see they looked like tiny blackΒ and orange ants (nothing like a ladybird!) We looked closely each day as they grew bigger and bigger until one day they all stopped moving and curled into a ball, this is called Pupa. We watched for another 9 days before our first sighting of a ladybird. But, something was vey strange, they hatched from the Pupa and were WHITE! We looked together on the internet to find that they would start to turn red and with black spots over the next 24 hours. We set them free in the Nursery garden to begin their next adventure.
