The Colour Wheel!

This week, the children have been investigating shade and colour combinations.

Earlier in the week, the children were introduced to an artist called John Dyer, who they will be basing their final piece on. The children have also been investigating how to change the shade of a colour using white and black tints. The children completed a colour chart where they gradually lightened a primary colour using white and gradually darkened a primary colour using black.

Then, the children were reintroduced to the terms ‘primary’, ‘secondary’ and ‘tertiary’ colours. After recapping the colours and colour combinations, the children began completing a colour wheel. We started off with the primary colours. Then, the children used the primary colours to make secondary colours. Finally, the children mixed equal parts primary and secondary colours to make  tertiary colours.

Next week, the children will be sketching and painting a rainforest theme and will only be given primary colours as their base colours!
