For the past two weeks, the children have been planning for and writing a newspaper article in English.
As part of our sentence stackers, the children have been looking at and learning about broken speech. After learning about the rules regarding punctuation and the position of the reporting clause, the children completed a drama task where they acted out a mock press conference. As the children were writing a newspaper article reporting on the plane crash in The Explorer, half of the class acted as journalists asking questions to the other half of the class, who acted as the police officer leading the investigation.
Using the ideas generated by the drama, the children then wrote up responses from the police officer to use in their sentence stacker, applying the rules learnt about broken speech.
Then, the children accurately used this when completing their newspaper articles.
