3D Shapes

This week in Maths, the children in Year 1 have been learning about 3D shapes.

We started by learning the name of some 3D shapes – sphere, cube, cuboid, cylinder, pyramid and cone.  We discussed what shape their faces were and we even learnt that a sphere and a cylinder can roll.  Next everyone had fun building models with them.  The teachers were impressed with the children’s creativity and the models included castles, towers, trains and people.  The children discovered that some 3D shapes were more difficult to balance in a model than others.  The children were great at working cooperatively in pairs to build their models.  Well done Year one!
