Complements to 100

This week, the children have been learning how to find pairs to 100. We first recapped their number bonds to 20 with a game which they all enjoyed. We then looked at how to find pairs to 100 using counters. The children used a part whole model and counters to find the pair to 100 by building a number, and then found the pair using the trick that the tens need to total to 90 and the ones need to total to 10. After some practise, the children were able find pairs to 100 mentally. The children cannot wait to use this trick when playing the complements to 100 game on Monday.
