Friend or Foe

In English this half term, we have read the book ‘Friend or Foe’ by Michael Morpurgo. It has been part of our topic on ‘Peacekeepers’ and has provided a link to our work on the Second World War and what life was like on the home front.

We have done various pieces of work which have allowed us to explore the characters, their relationships, feelings and actions and also the overall plot. This has involved some in-depth discussions about the morality of the dilemma David (an evacuee in Exeter) was faced with. The children have written two types of recounts in the form of a diary and a newspaper article. They particularly enjoyed writing final drafts on tea-stained paper and typing newspaper articles on the computer. They also took great pleasure in creating a comic strip to show the moment when the two main characters saw a German bomber crash.
