Evacuate! Evacuate!

This week, we have launched our new English text – Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Friend or Foe.’ This classic war story is about two children who are evacuated from their home in Islington, London and taken to Devon to be kept safe. Once there, they have adventures and are faced with a tricky dilemma once a plane crashes in the fields.

At the start of the week, the children were shocked to hear an air-raid siren and had to leave the classroom with their air-raid warden taking the lead with her gas lamp to take them to their shelter. Once outside, they were given their identity tag and ‘evacuated.’ We looked at the small suitcase that would be taken and used some inference to work out the identity of the main character. Thankfully, for our children, they were then able to return to their families that night!
