Marvellous Map Work

In our geography work this term, the boys and girls have been developing their map reading skills.

Initially, the children recapped the countries found within the United Kingdom and they learnt that they live in the county of Tyne and Wear.

All of the children have enjoyed using atlases to explore the United Kingdom, to locate cities and rivers and then add these to their own maps.

The children have also identified how Newcastle upon Tyne has changed over time using historical maps and graphs to discuss changes to land use and population.

Throughout our learning this week, the children have linked their work back to our summer topic ‘Sense of Place’ and identified the nearest cities and rivers to where they live.
