This week Year One were introduced to their new English text – a non-fiction book called ‘Let’s Build a House’. We launched this new book by going outside to collect natural materials. Once the children collected the natural materials, they worked with their partner to build a house. The children had to include walls, a roof, windows and a door. Some children even adorned their house with a beautiful garden or a practical garage. The children were very creative with how they chose to use their different materials. Later in the week, the children compared and sorted fiction and non-fiction books. The pupils learnt that non-fiction books are full of information and facts, have real photographs and some even have diagrams.
