Fantastic Photo Editing

In Year 4 this term, we have been learning all about editing photos. First, the children thought about the positives and the negatives of photo editing. The children realised that photo editing could mean they don’t see the whole picture, or that the picture is completely faked! We realised that we can’t always believe what we see.

Then, the children had a go at editing their own photographs. They used iPads to take a photo of their pencil cases or water bottles and then cropped these photos to make sure nothing else was in their photo. Next, the children used a computer to crop an image. Next, the children began to explore the lasso tool on Paint.net. Using the mouse, they very carefully selected a part of an image (e.g. the berry on top of a cupcake). Then, they copy and pasted this into a new document. They could use their new found skills to build a completely new picture.

In the next few lessons, the children will use their newly learnt skills to select, copy and paste their head onto the body of a knight, and a panel of Britain’s got Talent judges!
