Science Rocks

This half term, the boys and girls in Year 3 have been learning about rocks and soils during their Science lessons.

The children have identified that there are natural and human-made rocks and they have learnt about the three types of natural rock; igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. Investigations were carried out on natural rocks to identify their features. The boys and girls tested the rocks to see if they were permeable and how durable they were.

After learning about rocks, the children learnt about soil and its different layers. They have also learnt about the four processes involved in soil formation; additions, losses, translocations and transformations.

To complete their work on the topic of rocks and soils, they are going to learn about fossils and how they are formed.
