Catapulting into the summer

In our Design  and Technology work this term, the boys and girls in Year 3 have been designing and creating a medieval catapult.

Our work began with research into attacks on castles and methods that would have been employed such as mining or undertaking a siege. As part of our research, the children identified that a medieval catapult was called a trebuchet.

In order to create a catapult, the children investigated methods for strengthening paper, identifying that rolling and folding the paper made it stronger.

Making the catapult was tricky but the children persevered with the task of creating a paper roll structure. They boys and girls were very proud of their efforts and enjoyed testing out their catapults.
