If you go down to the woods today…

This week in Reception we have been on an outdoor adventure exploring the theme of forests and woods. We have shared one of our favourite stories called “The Gruffalo”. We have enjoyed joining in with the words when reading our Literacy text, and used these in our imaginative play too.

In our learning environment, we retold the story in the small world using a variety of different props and resources. We have painted and used pastels to draw and paint pictures of the Gruffalo and carefully thought about the features we needed to add from the story. We have been exploring shadows using our light box too. We made our own shadow puppets for the Gruffalo characters and used them to one again retell the story. We explored how having the light in different places inside the box would project our characters differently.

Literacy

During Literacy, we have used our knowledge of the story to write a character description of the Gruffalo. We used our phonics and Fred talking to help us write down our sentences such as; He has purple prickles on his back, and He has a poisonous wart at the end of his nose.
