Fe Fi Foe Fum!

This week Reception have been focusing on the traditional tale of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ to kick start our new topic for this term – Explorers Outdoors. The children enjoyed retelling the story in the small world using the props and masks. In Literacy, they wrote their own story of Jack and the beanstalk using pictures to help them. They used our phonics to help us Fred talk the words before we wrote them down. The children also learnt all about how beans can grow into really tall beanstalks and looked at the growing process on a time-lapse video. The children learnt about the different parts of a plant and were fascinated to find that roots help to keep plants upright and steady. They enjoyed following a set of instructions to plant their own beans in clear bags so that they can watch the process of growing over the next few weeks. Reception can’t wait to see if al off their beans grow into giant beanstalks and take them on adventures just like Jack!
