Magnificent Multiplication

In Year 2 this week. we have been learning all about multiplication.  We started by doubling numbers, which was a bit tricky until we realised all of the answers are in our 2x tables!  After that, we used number lines and hundred squares to colour in our multiples of 2s, 5s and 10s. We spotted lots of patterns when doing this!  The first pattern was in with our multiples of 2 where we realised that we coloured in every other number – the even numbers.  We also discovered that our multiples of 5 always end in a 5 or a 0 which meant we could easily work out whether 327 was a multiple of 5 (it isn’t because the ones digit is a 7).  Later we observed that our multiples of 10 all end in a zero – that is easy to remember.  Finally, we counted in steps of 2, 5 and 10 to answer some multiplication calculations.

Next week, we will be moving on to division and we’re sure the children will cope wonderfully with this new challenge!
