Grammar focus – Speech Marks

In a myth,  you may want to use speech to show how the characters are feeling or to move the action along. We use speech marks around the words that are spoken with a reporting clause. The reporting clause contains an interesting synonym for ‘said’ and an adverb.

Writing task

Write your own Myth / Story – it could be based on Ancient Greece or Ancient Egypt. A myth normally has a hero or heroine who can be sent on a journey to find an object or save a person. Usually, they will meet and have to fight a monster on their quest. They are given a special gift from a God or Goddess that will help them win the battle with a monster.

What I’m Looking For:

  • 5 Paragraphs- opening, build up, dilemma, resolution and ending
  • 4 pieces of correctly punctuated speech with adverbs and synonyms for ‘said’ to show how the character is feeling
  • Expanded noun phrases
  • Interesting vocabulary
  • Different sentence types- compound and complex

Reading

Children should spend 20 minutes at least three times per week using Reading Plus.

Maths

In maths, we will spend the week focussing on a particular topic, eg. shape or place value. Activities will then be set on Mathletics that are based upon this subject.

Topic – Shape

This week we will be looking at understanding angles (obtuse, acute and right angles) within triangles and quadrilaterals.  There will also be some general 2D shape revision.

Resources to help:

These are the same slides, one is a Powerpoint, one is saved as a PDF.

There are suggested days on the slides of when to cover these.  These are not set in stone, and you should flex your days as needed, whether you do more or less on particular days, or don’t cover some of it, then that is fine.
