Health and Hygiene

In Reception this week we have been so busy thinking all about how to keep ourselves clean and healthy. During guided reading we focused on the book ‘Wiffy Wilson – The Wolf Who Wouldn’t Wash’. We shared the book during small group and found out the difference between good dirt and bad dirt. We talked about this and tried to think of examples ourselves. The children thought of mud, stains on clothes and paint covered hands to be good dirt showing we had been having fun and compared this to bad dirt like not washing or brushing our teeth and being smelly! We all had a turn at giving Wiffy Wilson a wash in the bath and looked at the different products that we can use to keep ourselves clean and how it is important to wash often.

Linking with our ‘Marvellous Me’ topic, we looked at our teeth. We talked about brushing our teeth twice a day and how we can visit the dentist if anything is wrong. The children enjoyed talking about dental hygiene and enjoyed brushing the giant teeth with toothbrushes and toothpaste.

In our PSHE session we read about Poppy (one of our PSHE characters) who was not feeling well and had to visit the doctors. We talked about having germs in our tummies and how washing our hands helped keep germs away. The children then enjoyed role playing being doctors in our class doctor’s surgery.
