Fractions of Amounts

On our return to fractions, in Year 3 this week we have been learning about calculating fractions of amounts.

Using counters, drawing bar models and recalling our times tables knowledge, we have been learning about how the denominator tells us what we are dividing by (the divisor) and that our answer (the quotient) becomes our fraction of amount.

It sounds more complex than it is – but by using counters and structured stem sentences to answer the question, the children did a great job understanding and demonstrating the process!
