Fraction Frenzy!

Year One have been having fun with fractions this week.

The week started off by learning what half means. We learnt that when we half a shape we have to split it into two equal parts.

Next, the children cut out a square, a circle and a triangle. They folded each shape in half and coloured half of it in. By the end of the week, the children were able to use the same process to learn what a quarter means. They learned that a quarter is split into 4 equal parts.

When looking at different pictures, the children were able to identify and discuss which shapes had been halved and quartered correctly. We were impressed with their cutting, colouring and folding skills.
