This week in science, year four have investigated how sounds are made. They explored using different instruments and everyday objects on their table. They identified the different actions that create sounds: hit, pluck, scrape, shake and blow. They then tried to describe the sound as being high pitch, low pitch, loud or quiet. Many children found that they could also feel when a noise was made by the drum. They identified this as a vibration and demonstrated this by putting lentils on top of a drum then hitting it. Finally, the children tried to change the pitch or volume of the noise by changing what they did to the object.
