The Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda

Today, the Year 6 children have enjoyed a visit to The Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda.

The children began the day at the Roman Army Museum where they were taught by a Roman centurion in an interactive classroom. In the classroom, the children spoke in Latin, counted to ten and were taught about the spread of the Roman Empire across three continents. They also got the opportunity to explore the museum and particularly enjoyed seeing how much force they could put into pulling a bow to fire an arrow.

Then they moved on to the Vindolanda site. The children saw archaeologists carrying out a dig which was brilliant to watch. Completing a trail, engaged all of the children to thoroughly explore the site. They followed a map and clues and were thrilled when they found answers within the Roman remains. Before leaving, the children explored the Roman forts.

It was an absolutely brilliant day for both staff and children. The behaviour of the Year 6 children was exemplary and members of the general public commented on how polite the children were. The staff of very proud of them!
