Today, the boys and girls in Year Two transformed into rock stars to launch a new Maths app – Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS). The children looked fantastic with coloured hair, bandanas and even tattoos.
The children listened to a short assembly all about TTRS and couldn’t wait to get started. When they first logged in, the children met Baz Wynter – the lead singer in the TTRS band. They then had to choose a name for their rockstar avatar. As this was their first experience of the app, the boys and girls started “Jamming”. This gave them the opportunity to practise their times tables without the pressure of time. As soon as the children started to earn coins, they explored the avatar shop and even spent some of their earnings customising their avatar.
Next, the children had the opportunity to design and draw their own avatar. Some of the boys and girls took inspiration from their fantastic outfits whereas others chose to match their avatar to one of their interests – football and Madonna.
Although we had plenty of inflatable guitars today, the children made a musical instrument of their own. They decorated two paper cups using felt tip pens, before filling them with rice. Once the cups had been taped together, the children had their very own shaker. The boys and girls loved making music with their creations.
Even though the day is over, the fun hasn’t stopped. Both classes are to go head to head in a TTRS battle. The children are so excited to compete and earn the most points for their class. Let battle commence!
